One book that has massively influenced my
argument is Cold War Modern: Design 1945-1970. This book focusses
on the role of graphic design throughout the Cold war, at periods of tension
and detente. I have picked out these four quotes to use in my essay to make my
argument. This book focuses on the creative conflict that took part
and offers an international perspective on the Cold War across the arts.
It looks into the idea of graphic design being used as a tool to represent
and sometimes challenge the dominant political and social ideas of the
age. It looks into everyday products, to the highest human achievements in
science and culture, that were produced to out do the opponent in this
period of creativity.

been a unifying theme. But the event of a Cold War freeze in the relations
between former allies.”
