OUGD401 - Development and Feedback

I have produced some initial designs using the elements that I have looked into. To ensure the Typhoo tea keeps it's British nationality I have used red white and blue, but kept to using colours that are low in tone. Using colours that are low in tone gives the product a modern tone of voice. I have decided to keep the typography minimal and simple use of colour. This design appears overall flat which is in keeping with the modern aesthetic but was also a design decision commonly used in the 1950's.

I have tried to experiment with different uses of colour. I have found that a single band of colour works well and will create an engaging design. I feel that some of the colours chosen produce a design that connotes the same tone of voice as racing colours, so I have experimented with different combinations of colour.

In places I have included the green colour as it connotes the tea leaf. In other designs I have included illustration of the tea leaf itself. This illustration is kept minimal and naive as this style of design is currently in trend.

Many people liked my initial design ideas. People liked the use of red as it keeps the Typhoo brand's image. The use of white space was considered impactful and suits current trends. many people preferred the use of sans serif type as it is refreshing and identifies with a younger generation who may be trying to identify with a tea brand as many people have a preference. Lots of people liked the use of a colour band and actually disagreed with me when i said it looked a little too much like racing stripes.
